  • Trees For Babies
In May each year, family and friends are invited by Keep Waitakere Beautiful Trust to celebrate the birth of their new baby by planting a native tree in a local reserve.

The project is delivered in partnership with Auckland Council and Plunket and a personalised invitation is sent to all babies registered with Plunket in the year prior to the planting event. Four neighbourhood parks, one in each of the four city wards, are selected for a grove of 'baby trees'.

At each event, families are given a planting demonstration and educated about the importance of trees in the urban environment. Free entertainment is provided including clowns, a bouncy castle, and face painters. Every baby attending is presented with a 'new citizen' certificate.

This year, Neighbourhood Support Waitakere attended three of these events, in Glen Eden, Henderson and Ranui. We met some delightful families and in the process enrolled many new households.

  • Info Fest 2012
This was advertised by the Glen Eden Community Centre as a fun filled day for people living in or around Glen Eden to gather information on what is happening or being offered in the Community. The weather was not the best but our 8 Volunteers did a wonderful job of promoting Neighbourhood Support in this Community.
  • Te Atatu Peninsula Fun Day
    Sat 25th Feb
On February 25th Pringle Park transformed into a mini carnival tor the community. It was a fantastic opportunity for families to see what Te Atatu Peninsula has to offer to them. There were wonderful performances from the local schools and from other community groups. There were stalls from local organisations Neighbourhood Support, Plunket, Tool Box Parenting and many more. Fire, Ambulance and Civil Defence also had great and very informative displays.

I got to spend part of the day on the Neighbourhood Suppport stand and got to speak to a couple that had just moved into the area with their young family. They were already impressed with what they had seen, but had not realized just all of the other activities and community groups available to them.

The Fun Day was a wonderful event and hopfully it will keep coming back to Te Atatu year after year.
  • Te Atatu Santa Parade
